Metal Doors and Frames in Cincinnati

New Call-to-action

Have you been thinking about replacing the metal doors in your commercial or industrial facility? Will it be your first time selecting metal doors? If so, there are several metal door features that you’ll want to take into consideration before making a purchase. Here’s a brief rundown on two of them:

One of the first things to look for when buying a commercial or industrial metal door is its fire rating classification. It is designed to give business owners an idea of how much fire exposure the metal door can handle before it fails. On average, the ratings run from 20 minutes to 3 hours. However, the times are not always exact due to other elements like the type of frame and hardware used in the metal door’s installation. That’s partially due to the fact that metal frames and hardware are not rated in the same way as metal doors.

Another bit of information to look for is the metal door’s temperature rise rating. It tends to range from 250 to 650 F. It is an indicator of how much hotter the air on the other side of the door will become during a fire.  This is important to know, especially when you take two other factors into consideration. Those two factors are the maximum amount of heat exposure that human beings can survive and how hot it typically gets inside of a fire engulfed building. According to scientific data, human beings cannot withstand being exposed to air temperatures of 140 F or higher for very long. The average air temperature inside of a fire engulfedbuilding, on the other hand, tends to range from 1000 F to 1800 F.
