When you are running a busy retail establishment you need a way to quickly and effectively stow away extra cash so it is safe from theft.  One of the best ways is to install a cash drop safe either at each cashier’s station or in the company office.

What Are Drop Safes?

Drop safes are a simple safe designed to safeguard your important documents and cash from prying eyes and sticky fingers.  Usually featuring either a slot at the top or front  (for smaller deposits), or a larger drawer (for bigger deposits), drop safes allow your employees to make deposits without the fear of anyone being able to steal what’s inside. Since the slot or drawer allows deposits to be made without ever opening the safe, your cash and documents are kept private. Only the person given the security code or key can actually get to what is inside.

How Do Drop Safes Work?

Normally bolted to the floor or wall, drop safes cannot be taken off site easily.  Virtually impenetrable, they are an excellent way to keep thieves and employees from getting to your cash reserves; daily cash intake; or even private documents.  Thieves cannot break into cash drop safes easily and employees are stopped from “fishing” deposits back out, thanks to a baffle mechanism that seals off what’s inside, from the deposit drawer or slot.

In most cases, large drop safes are stowed away in the manager’s office. But, for businesses that may require regular drawer emptying (like groceries), smaller drop box versions can be placed with each cashier or register.  Fats and easy to use, deposits can be made in seconds by simply slipping larger bills into the box’s slot. This can help safeguard your employees from theft   by keeping their cash drawers nearly empty no matter how busy they get.

What Size Safe Do I Need?

The size drop box safe you purchase really does depend on how you will use it. If you are placing boxes at every register, you won’t need one much larger than a shoebox. These smaller versions can be easily hidden (and utilized); plus they won’t get in your employee’s way.

If you plan on using a single box to hide away your important documents and cash, be sure to consider what you will normally be keeping inside. Cash only boxes can often be smaller (the size of a normal home safe), but if you are going to keep business document sin it, be sure you get one that can accommodate everything.

Also, consider where you will be keeping the box. If you are going to bolt it to the floor, you will want one that will not get in the way. Installing it into the wall will free up floor space, but must be hidden from view behind artwork or bookshelves.

Which Type of Box Do I Need?

Cash drop boxes come in a variety of styles. The standard slot box features a slot made to slip individual bills, envelopes and checks into.  They are good to use for smaller deposits.

If you expect to be depositing large amounts of cash or multiple papers, a drop box featuring a drawer may be best.  This will allow your employees to deposit bundles of cash and other documents with more quickly.

If you need a drop box to collect paperwork from customers or clients (and even payments), then you may want to consider a larger door embedded box with a drawer. These are commonly used for after-hours deposits.

Where Can I Buy a Cash Drop Box?

There are many resellers that offer drop boxes for sale. The problems is, unless you are very familiar with drop boxes and know exactly what you want (and need), you may end up with a safe that doesn’t work well.
